February: Micro Goals

Ya’ll...
So, I’ll be honest...those daily walks...in this weather...was not happening last month. I think I did about 11 intentional daily walks. Mainly because I hadn’t done laundry. I got it done, ya’ll, so don’t fuss at me! The same day I came home from the laundromat, I went on my lil’ walk. I went for a nice 30-minute walk and passed by my favorite willow tree. The other January goals: I showed up and out for myself. The daily walk goal will be added to my February goal list.
Submit my Poems to Literary Journals and Magazines
Aight…I'm ready for the rollercoaster ride of rejections, acceptances, and even some good old-fashioned ghosting (hey, it adds a touch of mystery to my life). From February 15th to April 30th, I'll be sending my poems to literary magazines and journals that I adore. I'll be handpicking pieces that I believe will resonate with each publication. My last submission season was in 2021 and my poem Hertonement was accepted into Sacreligious Salacious Zine Of course, every year from 2018-2023, I've exclusively (meaning, whether I was submitting elsewhere or not) submitted pieces new and old to Radicalzine. Hopefully, I get to submit my pieces this year too into Radicalzine! Cross your fingers and wish me luck, ya'll. The submitting season is brutal. But so fun, worth it, and inspiring. It challenges me to explore my pen and experiment.
Return to Daily Journaling
I write in my gratitude journal daily but I took a LOOOOOONG break from writing in my journal. Due to other writing projects I had, the last thing I wanted to do was write more and usher in some more carpool tunnel symptoms. Nope. Now that I am winding down and simply focusing on my own project ONLY, I am ready to word vomit all over my pages.
Memorize 12 Poems
And finally, drumroll, please... I'm planning to memorize not one, not two, but twelve poems! I will begin performing live again later on this year so I need to get reacquainted with my older pieces and give some tenderly loving care to memorizing my pieces.
Some of the above goals are a bit longer term but I’m excited to begin pursuing them this month.
