Overthinkin' princess, here. Whether life is lifin or I'm floating on a cloud, sometimes, my mind can dive into thoughts of foolishness. I've gotten so much better with that over the years, thankfully. However, I still have my moments. Especially when I feel like I'm experiencing hopelessness or an unknown territory that feels like doom and gloom with sand and a steel spoon (Hey, that rhymes!). Anywho, with the below three things, I can slide back into the most important moment: the present.
Board Games/Play
My partner and I play board games occasionally. It helps me get out of my head and into a good time. We recently played Scrabble and the way they whooped my tail, ya'll. I almost called their Mama to tell on them. The score: 202-259
It was fun though. I beat them in Uno. I WILL snag my victory this month in Scrabble. Yes, I will. I love board games. I also like double Dutch. I haven't done it in years. I also enjoy rolling down grassy hills. The hills in Prospect Park have the best grassy hills for rolling, giggling, and stress-releasing.
Coloring
I love coloring! I, Jasmine Farrell, do NOT color in the lines and I don't strive to do so either. It's relaxing to simply focus on coloring something in with whatever color of my choosing. Jasmine Henderson has a dope, Color Me Well series that I have colored in. Wonderful affirmations, pictures and it's clear the intention is to center and ground the girlies. The second installment from the Color Me Well series was released last year. Grab a coloring book here
Going for a Walk
As I mentioned the last two months, daily walks (even in the winter) are a goal of mine. Walking slows down my thoughts and I'm able to be present. The answers I'm looking for show up or the unction to trust that everything will fall into place, slides in between my footsteps.
Later. :)
It’s a reclaiming. It’s coming home to yourself after the world tried to exile you from your own spirit.
Rising From The Roots is a collection about survival, reclamation, queer girlhood, and ancestral healing. It’s a book for anyone who’s had to crawl back to themselves after being told they weren’t enough — a testament that we grow even in the darkest soil.
Writing this collection was both a cathartic and empowering experience for me. I wanted to create a body of work that not only reflects my own challenges but also resonates with others who may feel lost or disconnected. My hope is that readers find solace and inspiration within these pages.
Joy, love, anger, freedom, sadness, release and gratitude are all found in Rising From The Roots.
